It’s all about the feeling that this textured diptych force you to feel. A calm silent shapes reflecting stillness over coming your iner peace.

With this narrative, exploring themes of return, patience, and transformation. The fisherman becomes a symbol of the artist herself — casting into the unknown after years away from her creative practice, trusting that something meaningful will rise from beneath the surface.

On the right panel, a figure sits — solitary, meditative — at the edge of a lake.

Artist Statement

In this two-part work, Fisherman, a quiet story reveals itself through texture, contrast, and form — not immediately visible, but undeniably present for those who pause to look.

He is the fisherman: not in action, but in presence. Rendered in dark, worn strokes, he appears carved into time itself, grounded at the corner like someone who has been waiting for seasons. Below him, across the lake’s surface, the forms of animals begin to emerge — silent shapes moving closer, drawn perhaps not by bait, but by his stillness.

A delicate arc — the fisherman’s line — stretches across the divide, linking both canvases. It pierces the boundary between separation and unity, presence and possibility. In the left panel, the hook lingers in ambiguous space — as if suspended between desire and discovery. Above the water, a faint sun rises (or sets), casting light not on form, but on feeling.

This work is about patience, about returning, and about the quiet faith that something meaningful can surface if we simply sit still long enough.

About the Process

Created through repeated layering, scraping, and building up of plaster, fabric, and pigment, the surface of Fisherman holds a raw, elemental tension. Its textures mimic nature — worn wood, weathered stone, mist on water — and evoke the emotional weight of memory and transformation.

After stepping away from my art practice for years, this piece marks my return — not with loud colors or confident declarations, but with stillness and observation. The fisherman is a mirror: of the artist, the seeker, the patient soul casting their hopes into an unknown world.

Symbolic Elements

• The Fisherman (Right Panel): Represents the artist in solitude, grounded in purpose.

• Animals Across the Lake: Embody intuition, primal energy, or fragments of self returning.

• The Line & Hook: A symbol of connection, vulnerability, and intention.

• The Sun: Faint and distant — a quiet guide above transformation.

• The Diptych Structure: Two panels, two worlds, two phases — all in quiet dialogue.

Mixed media on canvas (diptych)
